Starting the Journey: Istanbul to Bursa by Budo Ferry
Kick off your adventure with an early morning ferry from Eminönü in Istanbul. The comfy Budo ferry whisks you across the Sea of Marmara to Bursa, offering stunning sea views along the way.
The journey takes about two hours. Round-trip tickets on Budo cost around $22 and can be booked online from their website. Aim for an early departure from Istanbul and a late return ferry to maximize your Bursa exploration time!
Landing in Mudanya, Bursa’s coastal gateway on the Sea of Marmara. We’ll save exploring Mudanya for your return trip, so head straight to Bursa city center for now.
Ascend to New Heights: Bursa Cable Car (Teleferik)

First stop in your Bursa trip: Bursa Teleferik. Taking a taxi directly from Mudanya will shave off 45 minutes; it costs around $20, but takes only 30 minutes. Public transport is a budget-friendly option, but it takes an hour and 15 minutes.
If you’re traveling on a budget like me, I’ve got you covered! Minibuses from Budo’s station take you to the metro station. Grab a Bursa transport card there and ride the metro to Şehreküstü station. From there, a bus will take you to the Teleferik station. Use the Moovit app (set your destination to Bursa Teleferik) for real-time public transport options.
Fuel up for your adventure! Before reaching the Teleferik, grab some delicious Simit or borek from Mudanya or Seherkursu. Bursa’s bakeries are the best!
This thrilling cable car ride whisks you up Uludağ Mountain, offering stunning city and landscape views. Breathe in the fresh mountain air. It’s the perfect way to kick off your day trip! Round-trip tickets cost about $25.
Exploring the Historic Side of Bursa: The Grand Bazaar

After descending from Uludağ mountain, catch the same bus back to Şehreküstü station and head to the Grand Bazaar, a 5-minute walk away. This bustling market is a treasure of Turkish delights: spices, fabrics, jewelry, and souvenirs!
Ready to refuel? No Bursa trip is complete without its legendary Iskender Kebab. Head inside the Grand Bazaar; many restaurants are serving it. A typical meal costs around $10.
The Grand Mosque (Ulucami)
A few steps from the Grand Bazaar will bring you to the Grand Mosque (Ulucami). This 14th-century architectural marvel is a cornerstone of Ottoman architecture.
A Taste of History: Koza Han
Next, visit Koza Han, a historic silk market a few steps from the Grand Mosque. This charming courtyard is filled with shops selling silk products and other fabrics. It’s a great spot to relax with a cup of Turkish tea and enjoy the ambiance of an ancient era.
Panoramic Views: Tophane Hill
Top off your trip with breathtaking city views! Head to Tophane Hill. This historic area is home to the tombs of the founders of the Ottoman Empire and offers stunning panoramas of the city. It’s perfect for sipping a sand-brewed authentic Turkish coffee while enjoying the view.
Evening Relaxation: Mudanya

As your day in Bursa winds down, head back to Mudanya (we saved it for last!), because it is perfect for an evening stroll along the waterfront, enjoying the sea breeze. Treat yourself to a cozy cafe or a delicious seafood dinner at a waterfront restaurant.
Take a moment to unwind and reflect on your Bursa trip before catching the ferry back to Istanbul. Budget around $10-$15 for your evening meal or snacks.
Tallying everything up, you should expect to spend a minimum of $70 on your Bursa trip, with an extra $30 buffer for transport, snacks, or a taxi from/to Mudanya. This gives you room to customize your experience.
